Black History and Women's History Month at Moka

We celebrated Black and Women's History months together starting in March and coninuuing until the end of April. February 2024 was not a good month weather wise but we made it happen!  We had a lovely time wth live poets and a variety of art from some of Pittsburgh's finest artists.

Moka on Soho delightfully hosted The Center for African American Poetry and Poetics (CAAPP) is a research and educational department at the University of Pittsburgh dedicated to African American and African diasporic poetry and poetics. "Its mission is to foster, further  and share the work of African American and African diasporic poets, encouraging cross-disciplinary conversations and creating an encompassing dossier of African American poetry and resources. Kenyan artist Adam Masava visited Moka on Soho March 2024

                                              Moka on Soho  had the pleasure of hosting artist Adam Masava.  Adam is from Nairobi and has an artist collective there: https://sites.google.com/isk.ac.ke/mukuru-art-collective/about Some of Adam's work, made from corrugated steel scraps: Adam was brought to Pittsburgh courtesy of Nanci Goldberg of Ketchup City in Sharpsburg PA. We organized for Adam to speak with some of the children of Weil school, located across from Moka on Soho.  Adam brought work samples, telling the children a little about his Mukuru art collective, his family and how impactful art has been in his life. Adam spoke in detail about using found objects to create fascinating pieces of artwork, instilling in the children how easy it is to use found objects to create beautiful and meaningful art and that one does not have...
